Don Albinson war ein US-amerikanischer Industriedesigner, der heute für seine wegweisende Arbeit Möbeldesign der Nachkriegsära,sowie für seine langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Charles und Ray Eames bekannt ist. Albinson Arbeit hatte maßgeblichen Einfluss auf die Ausgestaltung und Entwicklung zahlreicher ikonischer Möbelstücke von Eames. Aus diesem Grund trägt der Designer heute den informellen Titel "Eames' rechte Hand“.Don Albinson Laufbahn begann mit einem Studium an der Cranbrook Academy of Art . Im Anschluss war der junge Designer im Designstudio von Eames tätig. Albinsons Know How in den Bereichen Konstruktion und Fertigung waren Voraussetzung für die Entwicklung der ikonischen Entwürfe wie dem DCM (Dining Chair Metal), der Sitzmöbelserie „Aluminum Group“ sowie des berühmten Eames Lounge Chair.1964 verließ Don Albinson das Eames Office und wurde Design Direktor bei Knoll International. Kurz nach seinem wechsle im Jahre 1965 entwarf Albinson den hier angebotenen Knoll 1601 Stack Chair. Das Design gilt als Beispiel für die funktionale, minimalistische Ästhetik der Nachkriegsmoderne und steht für den Übergang zu industriell produzierter Sitzmöbelgestaltung im öffentlichen und privaten Raum.Don Albinson war bis 1971 bei Knoll tätig und lehrte im Anschluss bis zu seinem Ruhestand Industriedesign an der University of California, Los Angeles.
Don Albinson starb 2008 in Minneapolis.

Don Albinson was an American industrial designer best known today for his pioneering work in post-war furniture design and his long-standing collaboration with Charles and Ray Eames. Albinson’s work played a pivotal role in the design and development of numerous iconic Eames furniture pieces; consequently, he is often referred to as "Eames' right-hand man." Albinson began his career by studying at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, after which he worked in the Eames design studio. His expertise in construction and manufacturing was essential to the development of iconic designs such as the DCM (Dining Chair Metal), the "Aluminum Group" seating series, and the famous Eames Lounge Chair. In 1964, Albinson left the Eames Office to become Design Director at Knoll International. Shortly after joining the company in 1965, he designed the Knoll 1601 Stack Chair offered here. The design exemplifies the functional, minimalist aesthetic of post-war modernism and represents the shift toward industrially produced seating for both public and private spaces. Albinson worked at Knoll until 1971 and subsequently taught industrial design at the University of California, Los Angeles, until his retirement.
Don Albinson passed away in Minneapolis in 2008.
